I was excited when I found your article mentioning the importance of the shoe-making industry in Orwigsburg, PA, in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Recently, while at an auction, I obtained an envelope opener advertising “Rohrer & Co. — Maker of Goodyear Welts and Turns That Wear”.. The fun of finding an item like this is researching the origin, such as learning what a welt and turn is. Although I can find lot of Rohrers livinlg in the Orwigsburg area, I can’t find anyplace that mentions the Rohrer & Co. shoemakers. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

I do not know much about vodka so I usually consumed the well-known brands such as Ketel One. I drink it neat so I get the full flavor of the spirit. A few days ago I took a chance and purchased the Boyd&Blair brand mainly because I am living in PA and wanted to support a local business. I am glad to say that the vodka tasted great and I am now a fan of this PA company. Sometimes it pays to try some thing new!

Jimmy’s sister was married to an Egizio. The family worked for Jimmy, established the store. Jimmy knew how to bottle which made the business successful. When he died, since the Egizios worked there, they just kept it going. There was nothing in writing. His real name was Vincenzo. They just called him Jimmy.

As a fellow Pennsylvanian and blogger of American made products, I was so pleased to come across your site. I just recently featured some companies still manufacturing here in PA. You might want to look into the Sun and Earth Company, they make all natural cleaning products and are right outside of Philly. Also Asher’s Chocolates in Souderton is a great alternative to Hershey, who has outsourced most of their manufacturing to Mexico. Also, did you know that the Slinky is the official state toy?
